Rainier Plank Introduces 2x6 Engineered Wood Cladding with Structural Grade Core

Pacific Northwest-based Defiance Forest Products announced the launch of a line of new 2x6 interior/exterior cladding, according to co-owner Terry Tebb.

The cladding products are fabricated from a Select Structural Grade Doug Fir core with a choice of three different face-veneer options. The grading enables contractors/installers to use the Select Structural Grade Doug Fir span chart for load-bearing calculations. By sandwiching two 1” Douglas Fir boards for the core, Rainier Plank can utilize glulam beam technology for added strength.

And the thicker 2x6 core material passes fire-rating standards in areas that follow stringent fire requirements like WUI and CalFire.

The available vertical grain veneers—Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and Douglas Fir—offer unique, high-end looks; the red and yellow face veneers aren’t available in 2x6 anywhere else. The Select Structural Grade Fir core makes the planks robust enough for exposed wood ceilings with rafters, and the engineered wood is highly dimensionally stable, less expensive, and more readily available than solid Douglas Fir planks.

Defiance can create thirty-two 1/16” Rainier Plank veneers from one 2” full-thickness board. All sizes are available in even lengths from 8 feet to 16 feet.

“This 2x6 cladding is truly the best and easiest way to attain a cedar look on a structural board,” Tebb said. “There is simply nothing else like it on the market today.”

As Rainier Plank products are made in the USA, they are more easily stocked, with shorter lead times, and a greater number of available lengths. They are sustainable and environmentally friendly, with a natural look and feel, and a luxury aesthetic.

The PVA-based adhesives meet the EPA’s TSCA Title VI Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products. They are the highest performing in the industry and maintain their integrity throughout the life of the product. The product is easy to work with and install, so the process is simple when it comes to getting a project done on time and within budget.

All Rainier Plank Products feature a 10-year limited warranty.
